Carla is a certified Gemologist & Jewelry Designer, and attained her degree at the renowned Gemological Institute of America (G.I.A. Currently, she resides in Dubai and is most certainly considered one of the most sensational jewelry artist of the city with her eminent talents and lively energy.

 

 

1. When did you fall in-love with jewelry?

Since my childhood, I've loved everything bling and sparkly. I would love to match all my accessories to my outfit and would go the extra mile to make my outfit stand out. My love for accessories transformed into my love for jewelry.

 

2. Have you always wanted to become a gemologist? 

A gemologist, not really, but I definitely had the flair and interest in jewelry and designing the jewelry too. It started when I was visiting the states and I had a friend studying Gemology, and I decided to stay and venture into this world of stones and jewelry designing.

 

3. What's the inspiration behind your work and what inspires you?

Fashion inspires me, especially because it is constantly changing with trends, patterns and seasons. I like to updates my collections according to the new fashion statements so that my customers can stand out and be true fashionistas. As for the exclusive and the bridal collection, it is mainly inspired from the Victorian era and from the history of all international royalties.

 

4. What's your motto in life, work and love?

I truly live by the motto of loving your work and enjoying what you do, because if you do so, you will excel in it and it becomes an enjoyable journey. As for love, it is to be with a person who can complete you and push you forward in life.

5. Do you wear your own jewelry? 

Most of the time I wear my own pieces, my designs reflect so much of my personality and my choice of fashion and trends.

6. What's your favorite piece? 

My favorite piece is the gun in the" bang" collection; it reflects the attitude of a strong & empowering person who likes to make a statement and be heard.

7. What was the best advice you received about jewelry?

The best advice is to be honest and deal with my clients with integrity. This is very important to me, in being honest to my clients I would gain their trust and loyalty towards me and my brand.

Interview with Maha Al Sibai, following her Jewellery Launch on the 9th February 2013 in Dubai.

1. What is the inspiration behind this collection?

This collection reflects emotions and feelings of Love. My jewelry, this season is full of flowers of all shapes & colors. For me, flowers are a symbol of love, affection & compassion and are exchanged between people who they adore & admire.  For this collection, I have used a rare yellow heart shaped cut diamond, in a rare & fancy pendant and is 15.35 Carat-sized.

 

2. When did your interest in jewelry begin?

Since childhood, I've had the aptitude & interest to admire design, art & craftsmanship. I use to paint portraits, and I would wait to get to the part of painting the clothes, jewelry of the woman that I was drawing. I would love staring and observing the techniques used in the sketches & arts of French & Italian artists.

 

3. Who is this collection aimed for? What is your customer base?

I aim my collection at the women that not only love jewelry but who also love art. This collection ranges from simple illustrated jewelry to complex sophisticated jewelry pieces and stones.

 

4. What do you look for when buying jewelry?

As a buyer I look out for exclusivity, quality, elegance and luxury when buying jewelry. As a jewelry designer, I target the exclusive jewelry collectors because they understand the art behind each unique piece.

 

5.Which season or style of wear is this collection best suited?

I believe jewelry should not be categorized as seasonal or should not have a season at all. It's a form of art, it is eternal and can be inherited and passed on from one generation to another.  This collection ranges from all kinds of pieces, from being simple pieces to pieces that can be worn on a special occasion.

 

6. Where can one buy your jewelry?

Maha Al Sibai Jewellery Store is located in Jumeirah 3 on Al Wasl Road at the J 3 mall, First Floor, Dubai.
